Parents
The aim of the Parent Association is to enable parents/guardians to play our part in ensuring the best possible education for our children and endeavours to support pupils, parents and teaching staff on a day-to-day basis through the association's activities.
Our committee is made up of two representatives from each class giving a broad representation from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
We meet approximately once a month and discuss relevant issues, highlight concerns, discuss fundraising ideas and debate how suggestions made best serve the needs of our school.
In conjunction with the school principal we decide how best to spend funds raised, in areas big and small, that are of most benefit to the students/school, and on occasion subsidise activities, which eases the burden of cost to families. Our Annual Fundraisers include Carol Singing, the Spellathon and the Church Gate Collection.
Mindful of current economic conditions we have in recent times, upon holding extra fundraisers, made a conscious effort to choose events that are as much dependent on parents giving of their time, and that gather equally from people outside the parent body.
We appreciate all the help from parents and try to ensure monies spent provide pupils and teachers with items (both practical and leisure) that are of most use to them on a day-to-day basis.
Over the past few years we are proud to have contributed towards large projects such as the playground extension, tiling of the bathrooms, provided new televisions, DVD players, reconditioning of class computers, provided laptops and projectors and on a smaller scale provided a bike rack, hand towels, sports equipment a digital camera, computer software and books to name but a few.
The teacher and pupils of Fourth class, aided by parent volunteers, host the annual Hospice Coffee Morning which is very well attended by the local community and enjoyed by the whole school whilst teaching the children how we can help others in need.
Co-operation between the parents and teachers is vital especially when aiming towards a common goal. Road safety is an ongoing worry, but the two year campaign to get the current school crossing built is a key example of how working together effectively can achieve a goal and this is something of which we can all be proud.
All of this information and more is regularly communicated through our newsletters and also keeps parents informed of things we do on your behalf.
